Last year was quite a rollercoaster for Henry Cavill fans as what could have been the beginning of a new era for him in DC suddenly turned out to be his exit. He was last seen reprising his role in Black Adam. While he only made a cameo appearance in Dwayne Johnson’s movie, it was meant to be something more.

Given that Man of Steel 2 was reportedly in the early development phase at the time, reports confirmed that he won’t be returning as Superman due to DC’s soft reboot. This ticked off his fandom with many complaining about the DC’s move but Gunn unveiled the DC plans for a young character to play the Man of Steel role.

As The Witcher actor didn’t fit into the new DC’s vision, he retired from his role. David Corenswet was chosen instead to replace him as the new Clark Kent who will kickstart the new Superman era with the upcoming Superman: Legacy. The other confirmed cast includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and María Gabriela de Faría, who will portray the antagonist role of The Engineer.

As per DC Studios, James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy will center around Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He embodies truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

The movie is set to release on July 11, 2025.
